THEME: "Novel solutions to the greatest challenges in Breast and Women's Cancer"
Pathology is a medical specialty that underpins many critical steps in cancer care. Pathologists are medical doctors in many countries who are responsible for a wide - and rapidly expanding - range of diagnostic reports on tissue that aids in the detection and characterization of disease and informs the treatment and care provided by surgeons, oncologists, radiotherapists, and other cancer team members.
Pathologists play an important role in the treatment of all types of cancer, but their work can be hampered by a lack of resources, training, and multidisciplinary teamwork in hospitals, as well as a lack of national commitment to a patient-centered, accountable service. They are frequently the "invisible" members of the oncology team, and they should be available to meet with patients and explain reports.
